#40 My families holiday youtube video of the year

Every year (especially since Tyler, Savanna)  my family would go on youtube and try and find the holiday video of the year, normally they are not the most appropriate because that just makes everything funny so our first option was this video:

But, then as we continued to look, I suggested a video I had watched in my Dignitas class, this video was originally organized by my favorite artist (Michael Jackson) but we decided on the Haiti version. It is an amazing (:

#38 Final Class Bloggg

Attendance. Media Literacy with Rob Larson has been one of the best classes I have ever taken! I wouldn't miss a day in class if I didn't have to. However, I did miss a few days but I let you know as soon as I could before class so that you knew, which is what our syllabus told us to do. My homework, I have done everything I was told to do, and I have done it to the best of my ability, and I always turn my assignments in that is one thing I have always been good about doing. Writing my 35 wikis was a little hard to come up with information, but I made it work and I am really happy with how it turned out. Thanks for everything you have done! and have a Merry Christmas (:

#37 Jackson Five

I spent last weekend with my best friend Amanda and we spent time watching some of the older cartoon Christmas videos, one of them being Frosty the Snowman. Later that night when I was at home I was up almost all night because I had the song stuck in my head. Frosty the snowman was a holly jolly.... blah blah blah. So to be funny I just went to go and find a nice youtube video to post on her facebook wall, and came across a cover done by the Jackson Five! So here it is!

#36 My Dream House

Since I was about 5 years old I have had my dream house, it is a farm just outside of Tamarack Minnesota (its really close to my cabin) and ever time I would drive past it I would say that I am going to get it someday. When I am older and I have the money I am going to by that house and get horses and dogs and chickens and have a really comfortable lifestyle. The house will definitely need to be renovated but that is going to be a fun fix up project to do with my family.

The house is currently for sale so here is the ad. and some pics (:.

and.. I just found out that it got sold... oh.my.god. that is a little depressing... :/ so nevermind...

#35 Michael Jackson

LOVE OF MY LIFE <3

Michael Jackson is the greatest musical artist ever, his music and dance moves are amazing and changed the entire music industry and as helped bring us to the point we are at today, so many people are influence by his work and what he did for the world.

Here is his Bio from his official website:
"Michael Jackson, one of the most widely beloved entertainers and profoundly influential artists of all-time, leaves an indelible imprint on popular music and culture.
Five of Jackson's solo albums - "Off the Wall," "Thriller," "Bad," "Dangerous" and "HIStory," all with Epic Records - are among the top-sellers of all time and “Thriller” holds the distinction as the largest selling album worldwide in the history of the recording industry with more than 70 million units sold. Additionally, singles released from the Thriller album sold more than 100 million copies worldwide, another all time record.
During his extraordinary career, he sold an estimated 750 million records worldwide, released 13 No.1 singles and became one of a handful of artists to be inducted twice into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Guinness Book of World Records recognized Jackson as the Most Successful Entertainer of All Time and "Thriller" as the Biggest Selling Album of All Time. Jackson won 13 Grammy Awards and received the American Music Award's Artist of the Century Award.
Michael Jackson started in the music business at the age of 11 with his brothers as a member of the Jackson 5. In the early 1980s, he defined the art form of music video with such ground-breaking videos as "Billie Jean," "Beat It" and the epic "Thriller." Jackson's sound, style and dance moves inspired subsequent generations of pop, soul, R&B and hip-hop artists."

#33 Bibme.org

Over the past million and a half years of my high school career I have spent entire class periods going over and over my work cited making sure everything was in perfect MLA format. Then I came to college, which is one of the best things ever, and was introduced to Bibme.org. It does it for me, coolest website ever and it is right every time, just need to create an account to download it and it has it all set up for me. Makes life and research papers so much easier. Definitely a website that everyone should use!

#32 St. Scholastic Northland News Center

http://www.northlandsnewscenter.com/news/video/St-Scholastica-Lights-Up-for-the-Holidays-135166058.html

I got interviewed for St. Scholastica after the tree lighting!!! check out the link!!!! :D

Quotes: week fourteen & fifteen

(15)Quote: "What a trip down memory lane." Said by a classmate as we were viewing peoples blogs in class.

Response: This class has been a lot of fun, and I have learned a lot, it is really fun to "take a trip down memory lane" and look at my blog, and tweets from this semester. I am going to take everything I have learned and apply it to my life. In the future I am planning on becoming a teacher, and I really like the blogging method, and I am going to be doing a test run of my idea in January at my high school in at art class. As the years go on I will probably also continue to add to my art blog ( myart03.blogspot.com ) and maybe ones for my future students when I become a social studies teacher. It is an archive of life.

(14)Quote: "Santa Clause is Real"-Grant writing and getting "free" money.

Response: I love writing grants over the past 5 years I have written different grants for different projects and have received thousands of dollars to have the projects completed.
However, you had said in class that you could use the money for whatever you want, in my past experience in the writing of the grant you have to specify what the money is going towards, and at the end you have to do a report to say what the money was actually used for.

#31 My Animal

For my basic design art class I have been given my final assignment to find my inter animal, based on my virtues. Through all of my research, I have determined that I am...an otter. And here is a list of my research to back up my reasoning (:

laughter, curiosity, truth, patience, playful, friendly dynamic, joy, helpfulness, sharing, talented, psychic awareness, faithfulness, feminine energy, alternative working/thinking methods, good friend, nurturing, sympathetic, courageous, honest, & mischievous.

#30 Stand Up For What is Right!

People seem to ignore that fact that bullying is a serious problem especially in middle/high school. Bullying is not just physical attacks on a person, but the mental and verbal attacks are more prominent and need to be recognized. Schools need to recognize that this is a REAL PROBLEM, and they need to stop it. If they won't, I definitely will within my life time, I can promise that. Check out this youtube video that is popular right now. It is reallllly hard to watch...

#29 Twitter

@VAJsays follow me at twitter #amazingstuff

twitter.com

Before this Media Literacy class if I had ever been told I was going to have a Twitter account, I would have laughed. Now I have my Twitter account, and while I still feel like it is pointless, it is very entertaining to just talk to myself. Maybe there are people out there who enjoy my random babbling in my moments of boredom. While I was deer hunting with my amazing brother Tyler, I got him set up with a Twitter, and he really likes it now too. Twitter is some pretty fun stuff.

#28 DECEMBER 7TH

The 70th Anniversary
of the Pearl Harbor attack is today.
Around 2,500 lives were lost that day.
"At 7:55 am (17:55 GMT), the moment Japanese bombers swooped on the US Pacific Fleet at Pearl Harbor, a ceremony will be held by the wreck of the USS Arizona, one of 12 vessels sunk that day, seven decades ago.
Nearly half of those killed in the attack died almost instantly on the Arizona, when a bomb detonated the giant battleship's munitions depot.

USS Arizona sinks during Pearl Harbor attacks
The sinking of the Arizona.
(I had a relative who died on the Arizona,
my aunt and great grandma went
down there years ago and
found a book with a list of everyone killed
and his name is on that list)

Navy Secretary Ray Mabus and military leaders will also be among the 3,000 people expected at Wednesday's event.
A US Navy destroyer will render honours to the Arizona to begin the moment of silence, before F-22 jets flies overhead in "missing man" formation.
Over in Washington DC, Defence Secretary Leon Panetta will lay a wreath at the US Navy Memorial at midday (17:00 GMT).
The Pearl Harbor Survivors Association said it would disband after this year's landmark commemoration because so few veterans remained.
About 7,000 survivors were on hand for the 50th anniversary of the attacks in 1991.
As well as the dozen ships wrecked in the attack on Pearl Harbor, nine other vessels were damaged and the US lost 164 aeroplanes. Sixty-two Japanese died.
Denouncing "a date which will live in infamy", President Franklin Roosevelt went to Congress for a declaration of war, which was approved within hours.
Three days later, Germany declared war on the US. America's entry was to change the course of the conflict."

#27 What's my Secret?

I get asked that question all the time. It makes me laugh every single time because they never know what my response could be, I almost always say “I have the greatest bra technology in the world” or something along those lines… Just because my name is Victoria does not mean I own or work at Victoria’s Secret, even though that would be a pretty fun job (;. Could you imagine the discount on a bunch of clothing articles that all have my name on them, pretty epic if I do say so myself. Well anyways this week was the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, so I thought I would put up a youtube clip from it. Also, I picked the background for this blog because it reminded me of Victoria’s Secret.

#26 PANDORA

Growing up I have listened to a large range of music: oldies (like Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Cat Stevens, Steve Miller Band, and many others) , all the way to 80’s (Michael Jackson, Poison, Madonna, etc), pop (Britney Spears haha), country( in my Madre's car), Christian (anything at church), Hip Hop (Anything at Stargate), Rap (Eminem), Dubstep, and anything in between. iTunes was becoming pretty expensive for the hundreds of songs I enjoy listening to so, I set myself up with a Pandora account. I love it! I always have it playing and I can pick a different channel every time I want to listen, or I can find a genre that fits my mood. Best invention EVER.

#25 National Audio Visual

My parent bought National Audio Visual when I was in 2nd or 3rd grade. At the time they had no idea what they were doing, but they wanted to give it a shot. Today they are one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the Duluth area. They do a variety of different services from equipment rentals (speakers, projectors, and screens), videography, editing, DVD duplications, film transfers, and more. It has been really fun growing up and learning about technology and what all I can do.

#24 Technology Critique

           BEGINNING... MIDDLE...END...
In Media Res, according to dictionary.com is a Latin word meaning, straight into the middle of a sequence of events, a story told starting at a mid-point or at the conclusion versus the beginning. In Media Res provides introduction of a story to be filled with drama and sets up the backdrop for the entire story. In his college years a young Bob Johnson was working towards getting his BA from the University of Arizona Tucson, while flipping through pages of information in an Encyclopedia he was attempting to finish typing a paper, when he ran out of ink in his typewriter. He had to go visit his aunt in the middle of the night to finish his paper for class. Today, we have technology at our fingertips, and can easily access the archives of the world. But is this good for us? Or is it damaging to our health?
Life is “the quality that makes living animals and plants different from dead organisms and inorganic matter. Its functions include the ability to take in food, adapt to the environment, grow, and reproduce” (dictionary.com). We are quickly reaching out into different advances. Next on the list to be completed is Artificial Intelligence. The definition for life is slowly changing as the advances in A.I. move forward. In 1953 Watson and Crick discovered DNA, the genetic code for living organisms. While artificial intelligence may be able to walk, talk, listen, and have emotions, I do not see how it is possible for them to be considered “alive” considering they do not fit the definition for life, and they do not have DNA.
Our already vastly technological society is thriving on the need for the latest and most advanced gadgets, iPhones, iPads, laptops, machines, projectors, TVs, and much more. The freshman class of 2015 at St. Scholastica is the first class to attend college that is younger then the Internet. “So what’s new for the class of 2015? For starters, these kids are younger than the Internet. They have been doing Google searches almost as long as they could stand on two feet and toddle over to the keyboard so they’ve almost always been able to download music, swipe credit cards, and by products from Amazon” states Jenn Savedge, author of green parenting books and blogs about raising eco-friendly kids. Today’s toddlers are able to flip through the different apps offered on an iPad, but when given a magazine they can’t figure out how to turn the pages, there isn’t a button or a screen to do it for them. Our society is reaching a point where we will no longer want to do anything on our own. Just like in the Pixar film, “Wall-E”, the world becomes so filled with waste that the world’s population becomes trapped in an outer space alternative society, where everything, is run by technology. The people do not do anything on their own, they don’t know how to walk, swim, or even communicate. Wall-E is a forecast for the future it is preparing us for what is to come if we do not make a change.
Research says that 60 percent of the extra pounds Americans have been put on as a result in the decline in physical demands based on technology in computers, states John Geralds and author for a technology news, reviews and analysis at V3. Today, people would rather sit in front of a computer or a TV and use gaming systems then go outside and go for a walk or play or leave their house. This sedentary life style is then compounded with “easy access food” with do not contain the nutrients that are needed for a healthy balanced diet. Our society can go on without to many further advancements in technology, while everything is new and exciting we need to take a step back and focus on the toll it is taking on all of us. While technology has its advances and its pros, there are also many cons that need to be taken into account and need to have some attention drawn to them.
Finally, today Bob Johnson and his wife Anne are proud owners of a Duluth business called, National Audio Visual. They spend their lives with modern technology and helping other people. I am proud to call them my parents and am glad that I have been able to learn so much about what they do and how they help people with technology.
