My final blog post on my 5 sources about printed media I picked because I really enjoyed the layout of the website and the "newspaper" feel it has to it. So I just wanted to include a link...

History of Newspaper
#12 Newspaper definition and such
A newspaper is a scheduled publication containing news of current events, informative articles, diverse features and advertising. It usually is printed on relatively inexpensive, low-grade paper such as newsprint. By 2007, there were 6580 daily newspapers in the world selling 395 million copies a day. The worldwide recession of 2008, combined with the rapid growth of web-based alternatives, caused a serious decline in advertising and circulation, as many papers closed or sharply retrenched operations.
General-interest newspapers typically publish stories on local and national political events and personalities, crime, business, entertainment, society and sports. Most traditional papers also feature an editorial page containing editorials written by an editor and columns that express the personal opinions of writers. The newspaper is typically funded by paid subscriptions and advertising.
A wide variety of material has been published in newspapers, including editorial opinions, criticism, persuasion and op-eds; obituaries; entertainment features such as crosswords, sudoku and horoscopes; weather news and forecasts; advice, food and other columns; reviews of radio, movies, television, plays and restaurants; classified ads; display ads, radio and television listings, inserts from local merchants, editorial cartoons, gag cartoons and comic strips.

MYYYYYY Documentary Essay (:
Documentary Essay
MONDAY:
Police State 4: The Rise of Fema
I found this day very hard to pay attention in class, I did manage to take many notes to try and understand the concept of Fema, but it was pretty difficult to wrap my head around. As I look back over my notes I do not even know where to begin…
One of the main concepts or topics of the video that I took notes on was the reference to New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. In the documentary they referred to the people who stayed behind in the Super Dome as “scumbags,” I do not agree with this. A couple of years ago I went to New Orleans on a mission trip and I got to go in the Super Dome, and I got to go the Ninth Ward what these people had to go through was nightmare, and still half a decade after it had happened there is so much that needs to be fixed and brought back to life. The people who survived this natural disaster do not need to be referred to as scumbags, they deserve better than that.
On my paper I have other notes that stand out… That I am just going to list off versus elaborating on them, because I really do not know what my opinion is on them…
· Executive Orders
· “Doing a heck of a job” –President George W. Bush
· Arrest people for their speech
· Martial Law
· Fema Labor Camps- Kept secret for 11years
· Plan developed to suspend the constitution just in case
· Secret Government
· National Security
WEDNESDAY:
We started the class period off with a different documentary… “Fall of the Republic: the Presidency of Barack Obama” This Documentary was less difficult to follow but still a hard concept to grasp. I have to say I do not agree with how biased this documentary was because it was very much far to the right. And I am definitely not on that side, just saying.
This documentary seemed to emphasize the idea of an illusion of competition- with the Democrats versus Republicans. The video said the government is trying to destroy everything we stand for and it seemed like they were blaming everything on our President. Our President is our leader, and someone who may differ in views from some of the population, but either way he deserves to be given the respect he has earned by being elected as our leader.
One of my favorite quotes in the documentary was something along the lines of getting rich is the pursuit of happiness…. That is so not true, it may be true for a number of people in our country but that is not true of everyone, and money is not everyone’s main motive in life, there are plenty of people who defy that comment and are changing the world and making a difference out of the goodness of their hearts. Which I know sounds really pathetic on possibly even naive to say, but that’s what I think.

quotesssssssssssssss week 7
"With great power comes great Responsibility" (Rob's response to Andrew walking into class late...again.)
My Response: I love this quote, it is used everywhere and has such a strong meaning behind it and is open to different interpretations. To me this quote represents my freedoms as a human and as an individual. I believe that I have the what it takes to follow these words originally said my FDR and later by Stan Lee.
"and, as Stan Lee, FDR, and Jesus have all been roughly quoted as saying, “With great power comes great responsibility."" (quote from : Fischfood for thought)
sooo yeahh... I like this quote and the context it was used for in class made me laugh.

#9 Rachel
I met Rachel Sandel for the first time summer after 8th grade. We were both very excited Girl Scouts attending Duct Tape Darlings at Camp Roundelay. This was the week long prep for becoming a counselor at the camp. We had an awesome week helping out around the camp site and being silly and dressing up and doing skits and being around all of the younger Girl Scouts, we were their role models. After that we would always see each other around the community she was always busy and always helping out and having fun. Then summer before senior year we found ourselves nerding it up at yearbook camp as we both we editors of our high school yearbooks, it was also at this time that I found out about her Liver Cancer. Rachel died on Sunday. Everyone needs to read this article about her. For me personally I can hardly read it without tearing up. She was an amazing and strong person, all the way until the end.
On goinggggggg quotes... Week 6
"I just want you to tell me the truth" (Shattered Glass- after realizing most of the articles written were fabricated)
My Response: It is absolutely unbelievable that we can be lied to and deceived so easily by the media. We are so accepting of everything that we are told and we don't have the courage to stand up and say what we think is true or false. I this movie did really well in proving that we need to do more fact checking and checking what the sources are. It is a good lesson for us all to use in today's society.

I love having problems with my roommate. However, I have been able to spend some quality time with my friends who are a few doors down. After Andrea’s amazing performance in the talent show we proceeded to watch hours worth of YouTube videos, and this little girl made my life with Super Bass- she has some serious talent! From this clip I would recommend clicking on the link to her appearance on the Ellen Show because it is pretty epic.

Pluto Reunited with the Planets
Pluto was first discovered in the 18th century when astronomers were doing research on the rotation of Neptune and Mercury.
Pluto not being a planet has not sat right with astronomers for the past 6 years. Over the past couple year’s groups and organizations such as NASA and Astronomy Magazine have been strongly pushing to have Pluto reunited with the other planets. "Most astronomers believe Pluto should take its place alongside other Kuiper Belt objects rather than consort with the 'real' planets. Astrologers have a different idea," says President Gisele Terry of the International Society for Astrological Research
Tiny Pluto has emerged as a solar system powerhouse on every level. Although three times smaller than the Earth's moon and five times lighter, astrologers say the Pluto’s influences are “titanic, massive, psychologically profound and compelling.” Over the last few decades, powerful new ground and space-based observatories have completely changed previous understanding of the outer Solar System. Instead of being the only planet in its region, like the rest of the Solar System, Pluto and its moons are now known to be just a large example of a collection of objects called the Kuiper Belt. This region extends from the orbit of Neptune out to 55 astronomical units which is about 55 times the distance of the Earth to the Sun.At a recent astrological conference held in Washington D.C a “Bill of Rights” for astronomy was passed. At the top of this list of rights, was the right to consider Pluto a planet. So, on October 7, 2011 Pluto was recognized as a planet once again.

Quotes "WEEK FOUR"
“Everything in the bible is true”
y Response: I am definitely religious, I love going to church every Sunday, I love sitting in the front row pew listening to each weeks message, I love that I am the reason our church now has a youth program- and that I am now a youth group leader, I love that all the Sunday-school kiddlets know and love me, and I love that I have God is a part of my everyday life. However, I do think that the quote “Everything in the Bible is true” is a really bold statement. Because it has been said that the Bible can’t be taken literally, if it was taken literally then the Beast of Revelations 13 1-10 would be true.
The messages and stories and historical recording that were set place in the Bible are set to help guide us in the best possible path for life. It is suppose to help us be the best that we can be. The Bible is not meant to be taken word for word, if it was there were many different instances of wrong done in the world, and when people take it to literally is when we get extremist and acts of terrorism. Which doesn’t seem right to me.
So I would say the Bible IS truth, not the Bible is true.

MEdia: Origins of Media Essay
Origins of Media
The Media is a medium of human communication. Media are everywhere, and we are just starting to understand it. Media are archaic.
However, the oldest recorded history of media, based on science, technology, and evolution, begins about 4.6 billion years ago. Yet, according to the Bible media and human communication began about 6,000 years ago.
Old world versus new world is a very controversial topic, especially within the walls of Tower Hall at the College of St. Scholastica. It seems that the best option for this assignment would be to side with the concept of new world, which is what ¾ of our Media Literacy class decided on for the Origins of Media Group Presentations. The one group in our class that decided against going with the idea of the new world theory was my group. However, our group does not deny that the world was created by God, which just say that based on the research we did media begins long before the time frame placed with in the Bible.
THE archive is the only entity that reminds us where we come from. The origins of media began with word of mouth. Through storytelling and oral tradition and the passing down of history from generation to generation as stories became twisted and changed and methods changed, we learned our first lessons of: truth and deception. “(You are) lied to a lot more then you imagined.” This tradition of deception in our media has always been present, in the Garden of Eden Eve was tempted by the words told to her by the Serpent which opened not only her eyes, but Adams eyes to a new view of the world as we know it. But the serpent said to the woman, “You will not die; for God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”.. Book of Genesis
Based on our presentation the world’s first documented archives begins in the cave walls of Chauvet France, 3300 BC, with paintings of buffalo, hand prints, and other events of importance. Each hand-crafted documentation is designed with black and red pigment made from charcoal and red ocher. What is really interesting about the black pigment is it can be specially dated through a method of radiocarbon dating. It is possible to directly date the organic compounds found with in the black pigments through a process that separates the samples inorganic carbon which comes from the limestone. This method can go back thousands of years ago with year variations that a very similar to each other when compared.
Next came the Egyptian Hieroglyphics which is a system of about 5,000 different characters that represented letters, sounds and/or icons. Hieroglyphics come from Greek words which mean “The sacred engraved letters” Hieroglyphics were inscribed on papyrus and clay tablets. It took centuries for other cultures to be able to understand the meaning of the Hieroglyphics; the code was finally cracked after the finding of the Rosetta Stone- which had a Greek translation on it.
One of the next methods that was mentioned by a couple different groups, that I thought was interesting, was the Greek method of Beacons. Beacons are from around 1200 BC, Beacons where a method of using fire to either sending information or be a form of defense. These fire Beacons were able to send signals that could be seen up to about 600 km away (about 373 miles).
From there come different methods of that eventually lead to the invention of the printing press, which revolutionized how we spread media today. The first printing press what invented by the German Johann Guttenberg in 1440 AD. The Printing Press was a device that had inked stamps that could be transferred on to some form of paper, this process made it possible to print precisely and rapidly. The printing press made it possible for making most people literate and was the first form of mass communication that could be spread through books and newspapers, which are still used today.
But what it all comes down to is what matters most is THE archive I know best and what matters most: Memories. Memories are what we know best, and is the only evidence I know best; I know that today media is Television, Radio, Film, Photography, and Internet. In my life everyday life my main mediums for communication are my Twitter, Facebook, cellphone, Skype, DVDs, and the Hermantown Star (my sister rights for it). Media has come a great distance from back whenever Media started, and I am looking forward to experiencing the new advances and changes in the way media effects my daily life.
